South Side senior Megan Hamilton attended J-Camp (journalism camp) at Lipscomb University in Nashville this summer.

I attended Lipscomb University's journalism camp, also known as j-camp, during summer break. It was a three day session about media careers and Lipscomb University.
Many people from all over the U.S. attended the camp.
Everything was set up to give students a feel of college life.
Getting up early, walking to Starbucks for coffee, breakfast, then off to class. It was just a typical day for a college student. We also stayed in dorm rooms and were responsible for getting up and getting to class every morning.
Each student was given a list of classes for each day and at what time they would be in session.
We were responsible for attending the classes of our choosing and were allowed free time each day along with any time we did not take a class. In our classes we were introduced to different types of computer software such as Adobe Dreamweaver. We also learned about editing pictures and web design.
I was already familiar with some of the software and techniques we covered because of my media classes here at South Side, but it still a valuable experience.
We had two main projects to finish during the camp.
First, we interviewed Tennessee Titans radio announcer Mike Keith, and were to write a paper about it or make a video.
I chose to make a video of the interview with a group of other students. While producing the video, we got to experience what its like to be a news anchor and editor.
The final result was presented to all students that attended j-camp.
Second, we were to write a movie review. We watched Bolt one night and were given until breakfast the next morning to turn in our review.
We were given mandatory classes to prepare us for both projects. They taught us everything we needed to know as we went along.
Over all it was fun and very informative. I recommend that anyone thinking of pursuing a career in media - or interested in Lipscomb University - take the time to attend this camp.
