South Side Golf Team Prepares for Post Season
Thursday, September 17, 2009

The

South Side Hawks golf team will wrap up the season with a district match at the Tennessee River Golf Club on Tuesday September 28th.

There will be 18 holes played, so it will bean all day match.  The team consists of three seniors: Matthew McSwain, Zach Wadley, and Trey Lindsey, and two sophomores: Nathan Neff, and Will Lindsey.

Lindsey and Neff have split their time between golf and football.

“I’ve enjoyed this group because they get along good and are mature,” said team coach Rusty Carson. After coaching golf for ten years, Carson says he likes being around kids and watching them mature.

The team practices four times a week at Woodland Hills Golf Club. Half the matches are at Woodland. The hardest course the team has played this year is Selmer Country Golf Club.

Senior Matthew McSwain has played for South Side since he was a freshman. He also played two years at West Middle School.

McSwain has placed first in three matches this season; two times at WoodlandHills Country Club and once at Highland Green Golf Course. His favorite part of golf is driving and chipping the ball.

“I love golf because every round is different and there’s always something to improve on, it’s a game you can just go out and play with your friends,” said McSwain.
